Democrats Pushing Bills For Marijuana Legalization

Written by Alicia F. Luke

On Thursday, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer announced he is planning to introduce a bill to remove marijuana from the list of the US’ federally controlled substances. The bill comes on the heels of two others introduced in the House and Senate — dubbed the Marijuana Justice Act. These would go further than Schumer’s bill by fully legalizing marijuana at the federal level and getting rid of convictions for pot use or possession. The House’s Marijuana Justice Act is currently sponsored by 12 House Democrats while Senator Bernie Sanders, a top contender for the Democrats 2020 nomination, signed on to Cory’s Booker’s version on Wednesday this week.
